About VN-Index
The VN-Index is the benchmark of the Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange (HOSE), Vietnam's main stock exchange. It covers the shares listed on HOSE, weighted by market capitalisation, so the largest companies move it most, and it is the figure usually quoted as the level of the Vietnamese stock market. The level is quoted in index points on a Vietnamese dong (VND) basis. The VN30, a separate index of 30 large and liquid HOSE shares, is the one that index futures are written on.
Banks and real-estate developers make up a large part of the index, alongside consumer, steel, energy and industrial groups. That mix makes it sensitive to the State Bank of Vietnam's interest-rate and credit-growth policy, to conditions in the property market and to the dong's exchange rate against the US dollar. Domestic individual investors account for most of the daily trading, so sentiment can swing quickly, and foreign ownership limits on many listed companies shape how overseas money enters and leaves the market.

What is the VN-Index?
The VN-Index is the main benchmark of the Vietnamese stock market. It is calculated by the Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange (HOSE) from the shares listed there, weighted by market capitalisation, and quoted in index points on a dong basis. The VN30, which holds 30 of the largest and most liquid HOSE shares, is a separate index and is not the same figure.
When does the Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange trade?
HOSE trades on weekdays in Indochina Time (UTC+7, no daylight saving). An opening auction starts at 09:00, continuous trading runs until the 11:30 lunch break, trading resumes at 13:00 and the day ends with a closing auction from 14:30 to 14:45, which sets the official close. In UTC that is 02:00 to 04:30 and 06:00 to 07:45. The exchange closes on Vietnamese public holidays, including several days around the Lunar New Year (Tet).
What moves the VN-Index?
Bank and property shares carry the most weight, so the State Bank of Vietnam's interest-rate and credit decisions and news from the real-estate sector matter most. The dong's exchange rate against the US dollar, foreign portfolio flows and global risk appetite connect the market to conditions abroad, while the large share of trading done by individual investors can make moves sharp in both directions.

The daily history behind the longer charts, the 52-week range, the period returns and the technical indicators comes from VNDirect Securities' public chart data for the HOSE index, also delayed. Daily figures include completed sessions only. When either source is unavailable, the figures that depend on it are hidden rather than estimated.
What does the VN-Index 52-week range show?
The 52-week range is the lowest low and the highest high VN-Index printed across the past 52 weeks of daily bars, so it shows where the current price sits relative to that year's extremes. Computed from FXMARE's daily price history, the current 52-week range is 1,578.42 – 1,933.11.
