How this PKR gold rate is calculated
We take the live XAU/USD spot price — the US-dollar price of one troy ounce (31.1035 g) of gold — multiply it by the live USD/PKR exchange rate, then divide down to grams and tolas (1 tola = 11.6638 g). Lower karats are scaled by their gold content, so 22K is 22/24 of the 24K figure.
In Pakistan gold is quoted per tola, and the rate you are offered in a bazaar is normally the one published each day by the All Pakistan Gems and Jewellers Sarafa Association. That rate sits above the spot equivalent shown here, because it builds in the local premium, import costs and the dealer's margin, and jewellery adds making charges on top.
Two things move the PKR price: the international gold price in dollars and the rupee's exchange rate. A weaker rupee raises the local gold price even on a day when XAU/USD is flat, which is why the Pakistani rate can rise while world gold prices fall.

Why is the gold price in Pakistan higher than the international price?
The international price is for wholesale bullion in US dollars. The Pakistani retail rate adds the cost of importing and the dealer's premium, and it moves with the rupee. When the rupee weakens against the dollar, the PKR gold price rises even if the dollar price is unchanged.
