About STI
The Straits Times Index (STI) is Singapore's headline equity benchmark, tracking the 30 largest companies listed on the Singapore Exchange (SGX) that meet its eligibility rules. It is calculated by FTSE Russell and weighted by free-float-adjusted market capitalisation, so only the shares available to trade count toward a company's influence. The level is quoted in index points on an SGD basis.
Singapore's three big banks carry a large share of the index, so bank earnings and the interest-rate cycle drive it more than any other factor; property trusts (REITs), telecoms, conglomerates and industrial groups make up much of the rest. Monetary policy works differently here: the Monetary Authority of Singapore steers the Singapore dollar's trade-weighted exchange rate rather than a policy interest rate, and local rates largely follow US rates, so the Federal Reserve matters a great deal. Regional growth, China's economy and trade volumes through Singapore's port and financial centre are the other main influences.
The market for STI is currently closed. At the last close it stood at 5,422.16, a move of +7.02 (+0.13%) versus the previous close of 5,415.14, after ranging between 5,365.33 and 5,426.45 over that session. FXMARE's technical engine currently reads the setup as Strong Sell.

STI — frequently asked questions
What is the Straits Times Index?
The Straits Times Index, or STI, is the benchmark for the Singapore stock market. It holds 30 of the largest companies listed on the Singapore Exchange, weighted by free-float market capitalisation and calculated by FTSE Russell. It takes its name from The Straits Times newspaper and is the figure most often quoted as the level of the Singapore market.
When does the Singapore stock market trade?
SGX runs continuous trading from 09:00 to 12:00 and from 13:00 to 17:00 Singapore time, Monday to Friday, with a midday break and short pre-open and pre-close auction phases either side. Singapore does not use daylight saving, so the hours are fixed at UTC+8, which is 01:00 to 04:00 and 05:00 to 09:00 UTC.
What moves the STI?
The banking sector is the biggest single influence, because the three large Singapore banks are among its heaviest constituents and their profits depend on interest margins that track US rates. REIT valuations also respond to rates. Beyond that, regional and Chinese growth, global trade flows and the Singapore dollar, which the Monetary Authority of Singapore manages against a basket of currencies, set the tone.
What does the STI 52-week range show?
The 52-week range is the lowest low and the highest high STI printed across the past 52 weeks of daily bars, so it shows where the current price sits relative to that year's extremes. Computed from FXMARE's daily price history, the current 52-week range is 4,372.64 – 5,828.50.
