About TAIEX
The TAIEX - formally the Taiwan Capitalization Weighted Stock Index - is Taiwan's headline equity benchmark. It is compiled by the Taiwan Stock Exchange (TWSE) and covers the common stocks listed on that exchange, weighted by market capitalisation so the largest listings move it most. Platforms also label it Taiwan Weighted or Taiwan Index. The level is quoted in index points, and because the underlying shares are priced in New Taiwan dollars the index is a TWD-denominated measure of the market.
Taiwan's listed market is dominated by semiconductors and electronics, with the island's largest chipmaker by far the biggest single constituent, so the TAIEX trades as one of the clearest reads on the global chip cycle. Demand from US technology companies, AI and data-centre spending, consumer-electronics orders and the performance of US tech shares feed straight into it. Foreign investors hold a large share of the market, so their daily flows and the New Taiwan dollar move with it, and cross-strait and US-China trade headlines are a recurring source of risk.
The market for TAIEX is currently closed. At the last close it stood at 46,041.43, a move of -846.34 (-1.81%) versus the previous close of 46,887.77, after ranging between 46,041.43 and 47,332.18 over that session. FXMARE's technical engine currently reads the setup as Sell.

TAIEX — frequently asked questions
What is the TAIEX?
The TAIEX, or Taiwan Capitalization Weighted Stock Index, is the main benchmark of the Taiwan Stock Exchange. It tracks the exchange's listed common stocks weighted by market capitalisation, so a company's size sets its influence on the index. Brokers and data feeds also call it Taiwan Weighted or the Taiwan Index; all of these names refer to the same TWSE benchmark.
When does the Taiwan stock market trade?
The Taiwan Stock Exchange's regular session runs from 09:00 to 13:30 Taipei time, Monday to Friday, with no midday break. Taiwan does not use daylight saving, so that is a fixed 01:00 to 05:30 UTC all year. The market is shut at weekends and on Taiwanese public holidays such as the Lunar New Year closure, and TAIEX futures on the Taiwan Futures Exchange trade longer hours than the cash market.
What moves the TAIEX?
Semiconductors and electronics carry the index, so the global chip cycle is the main driver: orders from US technology companies, AI and data-centre investment, smartphone and PC demand, and the direction of US tech shares. Foreign investor flows and the New Taiwan dollar matter because overseas holders own a large slice of the market, and cross-strait relations and US-China trade policy add a geopolitical layer that can move the whole index at once.
What does the TAIEX 52-week range show?
The 52-week range is the lowest low and the highest high TAIEX printed across the past 52 weeks of daily bars, so it shows where the current price sits relative to that year's extremes. Computed from FXMARE's daily price history, the current 52-week range is 26,395.98 – 49,968.92.
