About Europe 50
The EURO STOXX 50 is the eurozone's headline blue-chip benchmark, tracking 50 large companies drawn from the countries that use the euro. Constituents are selected as the leaders of their industry supersectors from the broader EURO STOXX index, and the benchmark is free-float market-cap weighted with a cap that stops any single company from dominating it. The index provider is STOXX. Membership is defined by currency bloc rather than by continent, so however large a London- or Zurich-listed company may be it cannot join — the UK and Switzerland sit outside the euro area.
Its constituents trade across several eurozone venues — Deutsche Börse's Xetra, the Euronext markets, Borsa Italiana and BME in Madrid — so the index runs on the common European cash session rather than one exchange's clock. The headline version is a price index, worth remembering when comparing it with Germany's DAX, which is quoted as a total-return index that assumes dividends are reinvested. Members are large multinationals spanning banks, industrials, energy, luxury goods and technology, so European Central Bank policy, the euro's exchange rate and global demand all feed into it; Eurex futures on the index are among Europe's most actively traded equity derivatives.

The EURO STOXX 50 is restricted to companies from euro-area countries, making it a single-currency benchmark. The STOXX Europe 50 is drawn from a wider European universe that includes non-euro markets such as the UK and Switzerland, so it carries exposure to currencies beyond the euro. The similar names cause frequent confusion; a broker quoting "Europe 50" or "EU50" as a CFD is referencing the eurozone index.
