About GLD
SPDR Gold Shares, launched in 2004, made gold ownership a one-click trade: the trust holds physical, allocated gold bullion in London vaults, and each share represents a fractional undivided interest in that metal. It was a landmark product that opened bullion exposure to ordinary brokerage accounts and remains the largest and most traded physically backed gold fund.
GLD tracks the spot gold price minus the fund's expenses, which are paid by selling small amounts of bullion over time — so the gold backing each share declines very gradually. The fund pays no income, and its grantor-trust structure gives it distinct US tax treatment from ordinary equity funds, a detail long-term holders should research. Drivers mirror spot gold: real yields, the dollar and safe-haven demand.
The market for GLD is currently closed. At the last close it stood at 403.35, a move of +3.63 (+0.91%) versus the previous close of 399.72, after ranging between 401.18 and 406.55 over that session. FXMARE's technical engine currently reads the setup as Sell.

GLD — frequently asked questions
What is the GLD ETF price today?
This page shows the live price of GLD, SPDR Gold Shares, with an intraday chart and day range during US market hours. Each share represents a fractional interest in the trust's bullion, so the quote tracks the spot gold price less accumulated fund expenses rather than the price of a full ounce.
Does GLD actually hold physical gold?
Yes. The trust holds allocated physical bullion in London vaults, and each share is a fractional undivided interest in that metal. Ordinary shareholders cannot swap shares for bars: creation and redemption happen only in large baskets between the trust and authorised participants, and that mechanism is what keeps the share price aligned with bullion.
What moves the GLD price?
The same forces that move spot gold: real, inflation-adjusted US yields, since a rising real yield raises the opportunity cost of holding a non-yielding asset; the US dollar, because gold is priced in dollars; and safe-haven and central-bank demand. GLD pays no income, so price change is the only source of return.
