The Financial Select Sector SPDR Fund is one of the original sector SPDRs launched in 1998, holding the financial companies of the S&P 500 — large banks, insurers, capital-markets firms, payment networks and financial-data providers — in a cap-weighted portfolio concentrated in its largest names.
Financials are a direct play on the rate and credit cycle: bank net-interest margins respond to the level and slope of the yield curve, insurers earn more on their investment float when yields rise, and credit conditions drive loan losses. That makes XLF a favoured vehicle around Federal Reserve turning points and bank earnings season, which opens each quarterly reporting cycle and often sets the market's tone.
On the session, XLF is trading at 52.62, a move of +0.39 (+0.75%) versus the previous close of 52.23. The instrument has ranged between 52.04 and 52.77 so far today. FXMARE's technical engine currently reads the setup as Strong Buy.
