Eurostat's flash estimate of core consumer-price inflation strips out volatile energy, food, alcohol and tobacco to reveal the underlying trend in euro-area prices. It is released within days of the reference month ending.
Core CPI is the European Central Bank's preferred gauge of sticky inflation. As it converges on the 2% target, every tenth of a percent shifts expectations for the pace of ECB rate cuts and drives the euro and Bund yields.
