What it is
The Bank of Canada sets its target for the overnight rate eight times a year. The decision is accompanied by a policy statement, and on quarterly meetings a Monetary Policy Report with fresh growth and inflation projections.
Why it matters to traders
Canada's rate path drives the loonie and, because of the country's oil exports, interacts with crude prices. Markets parse the statement for any shift in the easing bias that would alter the spread against US rates.
