Initial Jobless Claims
United States · this week's release: Thursday, Sep 10, 2026 · 12:30 UTC
Consensus forecast and previous reading from this week's live economic-calendar feed.
What it is
Initial jobless claims count the number of people filing for unemployment benefits for the first time in the prior week. It is one of the timeliest of all US data points, published every Thursday for the week before.
Why it matters to traders
Because it is weekly, the series gives the freshest read on labour-market stress. A sustained rise above roughly 260K would flag genuine deterioration; for now traders watch the four-week moving average to filter out noise.
