What it is
The S&P Global / CIPS UK Manufacturing PMI surveys senior purchasing executives across UK manufacturers on output, new orders, employment, supplier delivery times and stocks of purchases. A flash estimate is released mid-month and revised into this final print.
Why it matters to traders
UK factory activity has been in contraction for an extended run, so traders treat this as a barometer of how much the slowdown is biting. Sterling is sensitive to the gap between the actual and forecast, especially when the Bank of England is weighing the timing of rate cuts.
